Monte Argentario is a peninsula belonging to the Province of Grosseto in the Italian region of Tuscany, located about 190 km south of Florence and about 165 km north of Rome. The two main villages of Monte Argentario are Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole. I spent two days with my boyfriend in a place that was unexpectedly beautiful.

We chose the hotel Baia d'Argento close to Porto Santo Stefano. The location is amazing! There is a beautiful beach just in front of the hotel with a direct passage. Remember to book a room with a sea view!

We had lunch at the restaurant Al Pozzarello across the street. You can't really see the restaurant from the road, but go down some steps, and you come to a small room, which looks out over the bay. I ordered Spaghetti with Vongole, delicious :-)

After spending the afternoon on the beach, which was quite windy, we had an aperitivo at Il Pellicano, a 5-stars hotel located in a quiet and isolated spot. The hotel is classy and elegant but contemporary, with a Michelin starred restaurant.

We happened to be at Alicina hosteria in Porto Ercole for dinner! In this small and simple restaurant for the lovers of fish and seafood the staff is very friendly and welcoming!

The next morning we went to La Feniglia, a long sandy beach which is one of the main attractions in Argentario. Honestly, I didn’t like it. The beach was overcrowded and the colour of the sea is far from clear. We took some selfies :-) and then we decided to go to Porto Ercole.

Porto Ercole is better during the day than at night. A must see is Piazza Santa Barbara. Porto Ercole is also famous because the famous painter Caravaggio died there, in 1610.

We ate at Osteria La Pace, it was dinner perfection. Both the food and the location are very good. The food was of a high quality and well prepared. Book a table next to the window as the view is stunning.

Our last day in Monte Argentario we decided to go for a quick walk in Porto Santo Stefano, and visit the Spanish fortress. It offers some of the best views of Porto Santo Stefano. It is very easy to drive around Monte Argentario, there is only one main road which is the Strada Panoramica, which starts in Porto Santo Stefano and allows for splendid views of the coast and the Tuscan Archipelago.
