Ponza, Italy's hidden gem

Last August we went in Ponza for the first time and it really surprised me. Ponza really is nothing short of a fairytale.

We stayed 4 days and I can say they have been enough to visit this beautiful island.

How to get there

An hour train from Rome to Anzio and then and a 75 minute high speed ferry to the island.

Here are some of my favourite things (and hopefully enough to get you started)...

To stay

Hotel Chiaia di Luna, overlooking the breath-taking Chiaia di Luna bay.

To eat

Ponza is full of good fish restaurants. Anyway, I suggest:

  • Acqua Pazza

  • Gennarino A Mare

  • Orestorante (cooking like in Neaples, see the picture below: mozzarella di bufala and scarola)

To drink

  • Il Melograno (swimming pool and music). Look at Paolo while drinking a cocktail :-)

  • Kibar at Hotel Chiaia di Luna

To do

  • Spiaggia del Frontone (Beach) – take the boat from the port of Ponza

  • Cala Feola (Beach) – take the bus from the port of Ponza

Suddenly it started to rain very hard but only for 10 minutes and then a double rainbow appeared in the sky

  • Rent a boat and explore Ponza. If you have time, travel to Palmarola, an island off of Ponza

  • A walk in the port of Ponza

  • Chiesa (Church) dei Santi Silverio e Domitilla in the port of Ponza
